I might actually be a writer now, also check out my Instagram

I might actually be a writer now… in the sense that, I have been paid to have my words published on actual pieces of paper. Rather than, my ramblings just followed on the internet by people who haven’t seen any sunlight in three days.

That’s right folks, I wrote things and other people wanted to read it.

Beat Eats Magazine in Melbourne have published two of my articles. Neither of them are *specific* to food, instead they’re about Tinder dates and being hungover, two very regular experiences for most Melbournians aged 17+.

You can read them right here. I’m on page 16 & 22. I hope you have a laugh.

For now, please enjoy my serious face (I’m eating Ben & Jerry’s on Haight St and it’s hot) :

Occupie Fitzroy is now on Instagram! Huzzah! I was reluctant to take on yet another account (I currently manage 3) but I figured I should be embracing this smart phone-foodie revolution so that you can follow my food experiences and my face IN REAL TIME. You can check it out right here. There’s currently nothing on it but that will change soon.

Check out my face.

Before we continue, I think I should introduce myself.

My name is Madeline, I’m a 24yr old Melbourne native and I like to dance.

This is me, enjoying a tea party:

Stuff I like:

  • Living in Melbourne, when I’m not getting rained on or fined for fare evading.
  • My job (I know, right?).
  • Boston terriers.
  • Tutus.
  • Burning Man, and other festivals of that persuasion.

My favourite meal right now (and the one I keep chasing) is avocado smash on crusty bread with goats cheese and possibly a poached egg on top. But I don’t mean to be too specific. I like most things so long as they have no meat and plenty of garlic. I’m a former coffee addict but prefer a soy chai these days as it doesn’t make me feel crazy. I’ve lived in Melbourne’s inner-north for a year now. A glass of red is my drink of choice and life treats me pretty well.

This is the blog I like to keep so I can spread the word on my (hopefully) amazing culinary experiences.

This is Occupie Fitzroy!

Hey hey!

Welcome to Occupie Fitzroy (pun completely intended).

Occupie Fitzroy is a food blog. I plan to visit every bar/restaurant/cafe in the Fitzroy/Collingwood area, and write about these experiences. Melbourne’s inner-north is known for some fucking cool bars and cafes, perfect to stumble into from the 86 tram when you’re so hungover (like the song says). So I’m going to check all of them out, and rant about it here.

Alongside my general observations of food quality and hipster cred, I will be using a series of metrics on which to judge each Occupie location:

  • DBI (Door to Beard Index)- The number of steps it takes before one is presented with an incredibly fierce beard.
  • Coffee Snob Rating- A rating on how much their coffee doesn’t suck.
  • Noms!- Is their food nom-worthy?
  • How Poor Will It Make Me?– The damage to one’s presumably struggling bank account.

Metrics may change according to location and creativity.

And so it begins. Stay tuned lovers!
